Where I can buy a good topographical map of the Flat Tops wilderness area in Colorado?
My husband hunting and summer camps there and every group I never have been able to find a good map of the area. They use their GPS systems and head to navigate the difficult terrain. I'd take one on the Internet, but I'm not sure where to start … please help!
I think my first choice would be the Illustrated trail maps from National Geographic. They are good maps topographic quality, and track information is relatively current. Here is their website a map of Colorado: http://www.natgeomaps.com/ti_colorado Unfortunately, requires four different maps (# 122, 123, 124 and 125) to cover the entire flat desert Tops. You can buy maps directly from this website, or other supply stores outdoors. The best (but not necessarily current) are topographic maps of the United States Geological Survey, but its scale of 1:24000 and 1:25000, would require a lot of maps to cover the entire wilderness. Colorado Software: http://www.natgeomaps.com/topo_colorado This is useful to explore on our map before or after the trip, but it is not convenient to print a many of these maps from your PC. A previous answer mentioned the DeLorme maps. The flat top is divided into two units – Medicine Bow and Routt National Forest, and White River National Forest.
