Trail Description.
Running from Ottawa to Iola, KS, This 51-mile hard packed limestone trail is relatively easy to fun anda drive. It offers an attention-getting panoramic views, near and far-in-out. The two parts of it are packed with rows of trees, plants and wildflowers, tall grass and sumac and cedar many conifers. It was developed by the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP).
Several sections are heavily wooded with awnings partial and complete, while open to others, prairie and agricultural point of view, namely, grazing cattle near fields of hay, corn, sorghum, sorghum, soybean, sunflower, and grass (big bluestem, Indian, switch, and buffalo). The trail is marked by creeks, streams, bridges, ponds, lakes and slew. It also has a steep slope just to be aware of all the County.

- Garnett. Full Trailhead at Depot. Places restoration in the town square and a half-block west of anda Trail on Highway-59 west.
- Welda. Full paths.
- Colony. Full trails. Midtown Restaurant One block east of the trail.
- Carlyle. Trailhead Limited w / toilet and a table for picnics, a water fountain.
- Iola. Public Park W / fountain near of the terminal payment, no toilets. Two cafes facing the park, other outlets nearby.
Because of the distance between several cities well built and well spaced trailheads, the Prairie Spirit Trail is ideal for hikes or walks of any length up to 102-miles roundtrip or more. Residents of eastern Kansas and western Missouri are fortunate to have a safe well maintained trail where nature and Prairie views are seasonal, pleasant and refreshing. Yes, ITA does not let fall.
