Middle Stone (Mesolithic) Age is considered the most important phase of human evolution. The era resulted a transition in culture, art and lifestyle overall stone age. Mesolithic age, but lasted for a brief period from 2000 years, but was a definitive bridge between Paleolithic and Neolithic. Innovations in the day to day activities and adaptation of the human race changing environmental conditions were to define the ranges of Mesolithic age. People started hunting, pottery, and began to live in colonies. The phase also marked the starting point of human expression in the form of art. The kind of art belonging at that age was mainly cave or rock paintings. These different works of Paleolithic art in a rudimentary way that they were more focused on human subjects, rather than merely depicting the animals of this age.
The people of that time were for Most vagrants. They painted the walls of caves, while wandering from place to place. These paintings banal themes, depicting objects of utility daily, such as bows, spears and arrows. Most of these works of art defined wildlife, particularly bison, horses, aurochs, deer. These paintings, mostly red and yellow colors, used natural products, such as manganese and charcoal. The Mesolithic era relates mainly to the existence of man in Europe, Africa and Asia. The most famous cave paintings still exist in Lascaux (France) The Walk (near Lussac-les-Chateaux, France), the Chauvet cave (near Vallon-Pont d'Arc, France), Altamira (near Santillana del Mar), Cantabria (Spain), Cosquer (Marseille, France), and Font de Gaume (Dordogne Valley, France). One of the works of art the most detailed was discovered at Creswell, Nottinghamshire, England, which consists of engravings of not less than 80 animals.
As mentioned above, the Mesolithic art was much more mature and stylish as it proceeded human emotions and colors, as opposed to stick-like figures of Paleolithic art. In the Mesolithic period, people were much more interactive and has held various social events, a fact which has been carefully considered in their cave paintings, like those of the rock shelter in Gasulla Gorge, Spain. These drawings are some people with arrows, in a sort of rhythm, perhaps make a daily ritual dance.
Art Mesolithic thus opened the way for more refined Stone Age art known Neolithic Art. Neolithic art was much more creative and intelligent, which is as an eyewitness to the evolution of the human race through the ages. There are a lot of rock paintings dating from the Neolithic age, but only a handful of paintings are from the era Mesolithic. Art historians are still struggling for more evidence from Mesolithic Art.
