I first Outfoxed heard on the Yahoo Rita Mae Brown! List of clubs, how for the first time she had written a mystery story that did not resume famous detective cat, Mrs. Murphy. Honestly, I was ecstatic, not because I don `t like it the Mrs. Murphy series (I books), but I thought it would be nice for once to read something different from Ms. Brown, and I confess to have found the hunting fox call Tack. Since I live in the Tidewater region of Virginia, two to three hours east of where the novel takes place, I thought it would appeal me too.
Ms. Murphy is nowhere in this story, but instead we are treated to a chorus of dialogue between the fox-hounds, foxes, Pets, two feet high, owls, crows with bad attitudes, and horses struggling under the strap of thick fox hunters. The wooded area around the Jefferson Hunt Club, Mrs. Brown `s interpretation, like an enchanted forest a Disney movie. Therefore, I `ll tell you immediately if you getting the books Ms. Murphy stupid because of this device, you `ll think Outfoxed ridiculous.
Moi? I loved the heart of the story focused on the Jefferson Hunt Club, and his master, Jane "Sister" Arnold, trying to stay alive financially through the next century. Although Spry and still conscious when it comes to matters of hunting, the septuagenarian sister realizes that his successor should be chosen to replace any she. The problem is, both candidates are: 1) a coke-snorting womanizer, and 2) a selfish jerk who thinks he can buy his place in the position (and not only that, but it `s – gasp – a Yankee!).
When one of them is murdered, her sister took it upon herself to track the murderer, not only to preserve the dignity of the club and its members but to settle his own scores with the criminal. Seems to be the four-legged variety, is also a victim of this crime, and Sister does not take too kindly, either.
Regarding the mystery going, he arrives late and is quickly enveloped my taste. The key to enjoying Outfoxed lies in being patient and appreciating the detailed descriptions of hunting as requisitioned by Arnold Sr., a true, a strong character, characteristic of Brown `s pen.
