Raccoon hunters have become a dying breed, what was once a popular pastime in rural areas has now vanished into history. Most hunters now focus their attention to bigger game like deer and bear, raccoon hunting, but can be just as good as these other hunts. Raccoon hunting can be a great thrill and should be considered by the hunter looking to try something new. It is a very child friendly sport, and is ideal if you only want to introduce children into the world of hunting. Because the coon hunting was virtually abandoned, is a hunt that are actually beneficial to the population of raccoons. Raccoons have become clearly overcrowded, to dig deeper into the bins area for food, the raccoon population needs to be controlled.
There are some supplies needed for hunting raccoon success. Since raccoons are nocturnal animals, meaning they sleep during the day and move at night, a hunter can not rely much on his vision. Have a good coon dog can add a new dimension to hunt raccoons and increase the chances of a successful hunter. Not only the dog's eyes, most likely to see at night, his nose is much better at picking up subtle scents around him. The next thing that every hunter will need is something to help to do so he is blind, not stumbling around in the woods at night. A flashlight is a good start, but you may want to consider a hat mounted light. Although the flashlight could be easier to handle, they can also be a nuisance to carry, if a hat-mounted light is generally much more convenient. There are also a number of accessories available, both have lights on them, are shining in the dark, or at least the reflected light with the hunter in the dark, a compass with a some kind of light will certainly be a worthwhile investment.
Security is another issue to be particularly concerned when coon hunting. Often, it is a hunt with more than a couple of people and, as he spends the night, the hunter must be extremely careful. Make sure everyone stays relatively close, and everyone wears reflective vests. As long as safety is the priority, a raccoon hunt is always an exciting experience, if there are trophies to take home or not.
