A Beginners Guide to Link Building

The link building is an essential ingredient in ranking your website greatly of the major search engines. Not all votes are equal

The basic factors that affect the value of a link to your website are:

The site strength – the strength of the site pointing to yours is a significant (and historically abused) factor in the valuation of bonds. In the absence of other readily visible criteria let's look at PageRank as a key strength assessment of a site. If a site with a PageRank 8 links to your site, that vote is worth more than one link a PageRank 3 site. This is because a PageRank 8 site is, in the eyes of Google, a site more important than the PageRank 3 site.

Relevance – the relevance of a site link to you is, if anything, more important than the strength of a site. If you run a bed a breakfast in Utah a link from a PageRank 3 bed and breakfast will be worth more a link from a PageRank 5 web site design. This area is a little gray based on the engine's ability to determine what is relevant and what is not, however, we have seen evidence that this area is very strong at this stage in the game and only growing more important over time.

Anchor text – the actual text used to link your site is very important. I have seen very strong sites being beaten by the weak simply because of the misuse of test anchor. If you are building links to your site be sure to include keywords in the text that links back and, if possible, the exact phrase you are trying to rank for. At the same time, you can not do around the anchor text exactly the same – how can you possibly look natural?

Position – the position of a link on a page and the number other links on that page impacts the value of a link. A link in the footer of a page is given less weight than a link at the top, a link in the content of a page is given more weight than a link in a list of links and a link to a page with 50 links others have less weight than a link on a page with only few other links. If you think about it – this makes sense. All these indicate whether the site with the outbound links actually intends for one of your visitors click the link or not. From the perspective of an engine – the more it seems that a site wants a link to click on them, the greater the weight that link (or vote) is given.

Certainly there are a number of other factors, but this is a guide for beginners. After the above considerations will ensure that as you make each decision link – which is likely to make the right decisions will be significantly greater than if ignored. If you look at "about the author" section you'll notice a link to the Beanstalk site (and if not, well … let me know that someone who steals without permission). If the site is strong, and closely related to your site, then obviously is worth more.

There is no set hard and fast rules about how much it's worth a list.
