Created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan in 1973, the first appearance of Blade comics as a supporting character in The Tomb of Dracula # 10 by Marvel Comics. Over the years, Blade appeared in back-up stories and make appearances, but it took until the mid-90s when the book Blade first comic was released. From thence Blade has gained popularity and eventually branched out into other forms of media.

In 1998, the first blade adjustment comic to the big screen has been released. With Wesley Snipes as the Daywalker, and Kris Kristofferson as Whistler, the film centered around the blade that want to avenge the death his mother by vampires. Meanwhile, the pure blood vampires have gone to war with those who were turned away from humans. As the film progresses Blade learns that his mother was shot, and he was the head vampire, Frost, that bit her while she was pregnant, which explains why Blade has the symptoms of vampires, but no weaknesses. The film is loosely based on the Blade comic book stories, but especially the latter, and is sometimes considered as the film that started the revolution comedy as it predates the premiere of Spider Man.

Blade II, following the first film, also vaguely based on the comic Blade, was released in 2002 following the success of other comic related movies such as Spider-Man and X-Men. In this film, there is a new breed of called Reapers vampires who feed on humans and vampires thanks to an irresistible and bloody improved. Those who survive the attacks of Reapers Reapers become themselves. To stop the reapers, Blade is forced to team with regular vampires, the Bloodpack Shadow Council alone could not be overcome. Ultimately, of course, the Bloodpack betray him and he must defeat them alone. Fortunately, he eventually learns that ultraviolet light kills the reapers. The film Blade particular cartoon is the most popular of the three and did the best at the box office as three.

The third film Blade comic was was Blade: Trinity, and was released in 2004. Vampires concoct a plan so that the blade blamed for killing humans, and they succeed to do so. Today fugitive by the FBI, Blade must join forces with the Nightstalkers, a group of vampire hunters led by the man's daughter Whistler and they go hunting for the original vampire Drake, aka Dracula.

The future of the Blade comic book films is uncertain today after a trial filed by Snipes, and Snipes now serving a prison sentence for the crimes of the federal tax system.

In other news, two sets video based on the first two Blade comic book movies have been released for the PlayStation and Xbox platforms. And a series of short television based on the Blade comic book films aired on Spike in 2006.
