Self-guided elk hunts in Colorado is something many hunters would like to experience. I grew up hunting deer in Alabama but the dream of the day I could go to the Colorado Rocky Mountains and hunt elk. Many hunting magazines, I read articles on hunting tours with providers, but I could not find information about tearing a car guided elk hunt.
I was lucky enough to go Colorado to work with several outfitters, but before that, I planned and conducted my own hunting tours. There are so many things to consider and plan, but I'll try to boil the essentials.
When, where and how are your three basic questions for planning self-guided hunt elk in Colorado.
When has to do with what season you choose to hunt. Bow season starts in late August and will move in September. Then season with black powder begins in late September, followed by three rifle seasons in October. The last rifle season ends around the first week of November. The Weather is an important factor because of the possibility of snow in the later seasons.
Where will your next decision to be made. There are so low large areas to hunt on public lands will be difficult to decide. Start by getting a state map showing all public lands. It will including national forests and BLM lands. Then it's up to you to communicate with sports outreach for info and pre-scouting.
What is the last question you must answer. You need to decide what type of housing, food supplies and equipment you need to make your search for a reality. Self-guided elk hunts in Colorado are a great and affordable way to experience the hunt of a lifetime dream.
