Although Waikiki Beach on Oahu in May to become the most popular destination Hawaii, the mainland offers family adventures more hikes friendly to balance the hours of surf and sand. Here are the top three, must see sites of hiking on Oahu.
Hiking at Diamond Head
Diamond Head Mountain is the most famous Hawaiian. His real name is Mt. Leah, but the first visitors took the crystals calcite sparkling crater at the base of the mountain of diamonds and be called the Diamond Head area. The spot was once strategy Military Lookout and now houses a repository of the National Guard and the FAA building. Rest of the strong presence of former military can still be identified, like gun emplacements and tunnels built in the mountains.

A circa 1908 military bunker remains high and was originally a U.S. Coast Station artillery observation.

Hike to Manoa Falls
Manoa Falls is a spectacular cascade of 150 feet from a cliff near vertical set in lush rainforest. The trail begins with a gateway and continues for 0.8 miles through a gradual ascent. Access is prohibited to the small pool at the base of the waterfall. Secure borders are clearly marked by signs and cables in the viewing area.
Visitors should not bring dogs on this trail as hunting dogs are used in region to control feral pigs. Hikers should wear appropriate footwear as the trail passes through the bamboo forest and land which may be wet or muddy. Bring along water, rain gear and repellents against mosquitoes.
Visit Pali Lookout
Pali Lookout offers spectacular views from the tops of steep cliffs and very windy. In fact, the area is so windy that it is steam near waterfalls and makes the track almost 20 degrees colder in Waikiki, so bring a jacket, rain gear and prepare for a windy trip.
The trail is easy of transverse and can offer a change from cold climate, particularly hot day. Climb to the top and you'll be rewarded with spectacular unobstructed views the windward side of the island. This place is rumored to have been the place where King Kamehameha led some 16,000 soldiers to their deaths on the edge of steep cliff.
