The best visits I ever experienced was this year during a recent trip to Denali National Park in Alaska. I would not have hoped for better weather, the potential for wildlife viewing or friends to share with everyone. Our accommodations at the Inn Denali Princess both were fantastic.
This fall, I was fortunate to receive a call from my brother, an aspiring photographer. He had just won a Fall Drive Allowed in Denali National Park. They are issued by lottery and allow a limited number of drivers to enter the park by vehicle. There that four days throughout the year in which you can do. I was thrilled, excited and looking forward to my adventure of a lifetime.
We enter the park from Alaska around 4:30 am so that we can beat the other drivers and make a pass called Polychrome for the sunrise. Polychrome takes its name from a multitude of colors displayed throughout its rock layers. Normally this is a site, but at sunrise, it was absolutely incredible. We were also able to catch a great opportunity to see Mount McKinley at sunrise. There were a few people for this and it really Alaska was a wonderful experience.
Then we could see wildlife up close. We fell in three brown bears, a mother and her two cubs. They were eating berries off the coast road. Around the next corner we came across a pack of wolves. They were hunting has just pass and head straight to his blind brown bears. We had to turn around to watch this incredible encounter and I'm glad we did.
As wolves, brown bears approached they let their presence be known. They surrounded the bears and was constantly in close then pulled back at a safe distance while trying to chase bears out of their territory. The mother bear was a little worried because of her young. She kept not standing on its hind legs to see over the vegetation and follow what the wolves did. Of course, this led to photo shoots many. Finally, after about an hour or so the bears came and went over the mountain to the next valley.
We continued our hike back in the national park Denali to the end of the road. About 90 miles behind, you find Wonder Lake. Alaska has many beautiful lakes, but there was simply incredible. The water was clear and calm that you could see the reflection of Mount McKinley, as if you look in a mirror. We spent some time removing the little park there and then started our return journey.
On the way back we saw several moose years. This time of year the moose in Alaska are in rut and you find a lot of Bull Moose ready to compete for females. We only saw a confrontation between the little moose, however, we saw several Bull Moose with racks that must have measured over 60 inches wide. It's pretty impressive on all accounts.
We fell on the sheep of several Alaska Dall, brown bear over a beaver, spruce hens, a hawk and a plethora of squirrels land. The fall colors were out, the sky was blue and this was definitely a once in a lifetime trip through National Parks Denali in Alaska. In my opinion it was well worth the cost of travel in Alaska.
