The original German Weimaraner was an important factor in the development of carefully controlled this race. Germany during long been a leader in Europe as far as checking carefully selecting breeding. Breeders who are concerned about the quality of livestock are aware that a dog of German origin is generally considered the best downhill. The Weimaraner is a breed German Parents who came from the court of Weimar. The breed was highly prized as a hunting dog superior race for deer stem and trails and hunting bears and wild boar. In 1897, an exclusive club was formed in Germany to maintain the breed and protect the legacy of ghosts "gray". Since the Weimaraner was introduced into the American Kennel Club in 1943, farmers in this country have been much less restricted than in their country of origin and Weimaraners are much more common now.
The Weimaraner is a silver gray color, ranging from "mouse gray to silver. The coat is smooth and relatively free of care. The dog is a breed of high energy and need lots of exercise. Among the genetic disorders in May is in this race are gastric torsion, hip dysplasia and bleeding disorders. The conditions are all identified before breeding and a buyer purchases from farmers good reputation that has made the proper testing of its breeding stock.
The Weimaraner is now around a hunting dog who is also a pet family. They have great intelligence and do not make good kennel dogs. The breed has an aristocratic air about this, but it is demanding in nature and needs a good trainer, who will be the alpha dog. They do very well when kept in an environment family as a companion. Weimaraners have not traveled in the field trials in this country against labs and retrievers, but are very useful as individual hunting companions. They are used for birds of all kinds and there are a number of hunters who prize this breed as a dog that will run a deer or a deer trail wounded.
The Weimaraner has become famous in another field outside the sport of hunting in America, he subject to a number of William Wegman's photos. This photographer has used his own pet Weimaraner dressed in all sorts of strange and different situations. These pictures have continued to be very popular as prints and greeting cards and have become a major factor in dissemination of a previously little known breed of dog.
