There are arguments about the origin of the Whippet. Some breeders breed will tell you that this is an old breed that has been around since at least the fifth century AD A common belief is that over the Whippet was purposely bred down from the Greyhound when small Greyhounds were crossed Terriers with a dog produce exceptionally useful rabbit and rider. At first called "Snap dogs, these dogs breeds have been widely used to hunt rabbits by local farmers in Great Britain. To produce more energy in the race, they were crossed with Bull Terriers to point.
These fast greyhound coursing were often up to twenty five or thirty times a day by the hares. The Whippet was often called "poor man's Greyhound" and indeed they have lived the life of their larger cousin, huddled by the fire on a winter night and the management rabbits daily during the summer months. When rabbit hunting lost its following, the dogs were used as racing dogs and given disability based on weight. Because of the Whippet the smallest, weighing about 16-17 pounds, was more favorable than larger Whippets that were once used to hunt rabbits, which are often weighed in at around 22-25 pounds.
When racing became the sport for the smaller Whippet was popular Above all, being brought even better than the diets of their owners. Farmers bet heavily on races and a Whippet Quick was a treasure. Because of the value given to a dog quickly, only stronger and faster, were used for breeding and Whippet edge has become even more precise bone through the years.
Finally, the amateur dog show took the race and by the turn of the century, the dog had been admitted into the Kennel Club of Great Britain. It has been appreciated and admired by the dog fancy for its elegance and sleek lines, combined with a grace of movement that was not matched in other racing greyhounds. Today, they are shown internationally.
It is a race with light skin and delicate structure, often it is possible that the dog will hurt himself running in tree branches and others. Whippet owners usually try to keep the pens that the dogs are free of trees and shrubs. In addition, there is a breed that suffers from cold and must be kept indoors during the winter. However, there are relatively few genetic diseases or other significant problems.
The Whippet is favored by most exhibitors Dog Show, as agility and lure coursing and other dog sports assets continue to grow in popularity. The dog continues to be high with speed and endurance in mind and exhibitors the exhibition of dogs have not given any devices that alter the function of race, as happened in some cases with the popular show breeds. Consequently, The Whippet much remains as it has through the centuries, a dog who loves the show ring as much as hunting. In addition he is a dog that loves company human and he is extremely sweet and with a gentle look on his face, reminiscent of a deer or a deer …. a race that suits him very well as therapy dog.
