Jamestown

Appomattox
The Civil War comes to life virtually at Appomattox Court House National Park where General Lee surrendered to General Grant in 1865, ending the war. The Appomattox County Historical Museum is another must for history lovers as it houses various artifacts and pieces of the past, as a one-room school. Appomattox also has a lot of fun and outdoor activities in one of two state parks, Holliday Lake and James River State Parks, where guests can camp, swim, canoe, fish, hunt and go horseback riding.
Shenandoah National Park
Considered one of the most beautiful places around the world, the Shenandoah National Park has over 500 miles of trails with 100 of those to be part of the route known Appalachians. Do not miss Skyline Drive, offering breathtaking scenery, covering the entire length of the park along the crest of the magnificent Blue Ridge Mountains.
There is really something for almost everyone, fishing and tubing along the Shenandoah River for hiking, biking and even horseback riding. Overnight camp under a canopy of stars or one of the great lodges of the area. And another must be seen not far from the park are Luray Caverns, which are the largest and probably the most popular of the caverns in the eastern United States.
Virginia Beach
Perhaps Virginia's most popular destinations are its magnificent beaches. Most visitors are attracted to three miles promenade, with numerous hotels, restaurants and nightlife. Almost every weekend from May to September there are concerts and festivals, besides all the fun to be had along the beach.
From the east coast of Virginia, has two beaches on the bay and waterfront and accommodates for almost every type of tourist. The east coast is connected to the mainland by the Bay Bridge-Tunnel Chesapeake is about 18 miles long. Just Northwest there is Kiptopeke State Park, where you can fish 24 hours a day, exploring the trails and then in October, attend the famous Eastern Shore Birding Festival attracts birders from around the world.
Other major destinations along the beaches of Virginia, including Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center, offers fascinating discoveries for all ages, First Landing State Park, which has over 200 campsites complete with biking trails and boat ramps, and of course, the historical Cape Henry Lighthouse. This lighthouse has the distinction of being the oldest built by the U.S. government, and Cape Henry is also known for being the place where English the first settlers came ashore again in 1607!
